The most effective way to workout in an infrared sauna is through the use of isometric and HIIT training methods and workout types.
Inside of a sauna the close proximities lends itself to isometrics as opposed to dynamic motion and more ballistic styles of training. Professional trainers who design workout programs understand that there exists an opportunity for intense workouts with almost no impact to the human body from a properly choreographed infrared sauna routine.
Isometric exercises from the yoga, pilates and athletic disciplines can be crafted into highly challenging cardio, strength, flexibility and endurance workouts with ZERO impact to bones and joints. As a professional trainer, for that “durability” reason alone, I would recommend low, or no impact training to the mainstream fitness client. Zero impact training greatly reduces the likelihood of workout injuries.
Zero impact does not mean lower intensity. Trust me, some of the most intense workouts that I have experienced have come at the hands of isometric postures. One of the most extreme workouts that I ever encountered was my very first hot yoga attempt. Take it from an ex-jock fitness fanatic, isometrics are for real… especially when combined with about 125º of infrared heat! The challenge of hot yoga hooked me into isometrics for good. I can tell you today, as a 56 year old, that, primarily due to the many different types of infrared isometrics that I practice, I feel that I am in better shape than I was in my 20’s.
The combination of infrared and isometrics is the perfect way to train for longevity of muscles, joints and bones!
Let’s turn to high intensity interval training (HIIT) now. Most people think of HIIT as something associated with Cross Fit, Tabata and other high dynamic and plyometric forms of working out. Rightly so, and just the thought of high intensity intervals makes one conjure up images of jumping boxes, jumping rope, running stadium steps and the like. HIIT can be performed with almost zero impact though. All you need is a quality piece of cardio equipment, an infrared sauna and a well crafted interval workout.
In the fall of 2016 the corporate office of HOTWORX made fitness history by placing three indoor cycles inside of the patented HOTWORX sauna while streaming a Facebook live video with three executives sweating and breathing hard while pedaling through the first ever infrared sauna HIIT workout.
This groundbreaking new workout proved that a super fast, intense and effective HIIT routine could be achieved with next to zero impact.
No impact is necessary for outstanding fitness results. Even if you do practice other high impact forms of fitness such as running or hiking, adding zero impact infrared training will reduce your probability of injury by cross-training your body for elevated recovery from the infrared and flexibility from isometrics.
Now is the time to add zero impact and infrared to the fitness tools in your gym bag!
