Why Infrared Detox? Understanding the Body’s Need to Cleanse

3 Members doing Hot Yoga in HOTWORX Sauna

At some point early in 2024, I decided on a title for my second book. I've been working on content for this new book about the advantages of sweat detoxification through the practice of infrared training for a few months. The working title is Sweat It Out. The tagline for the book will likely be: HOTWORX and the Infrared Detox Revolution. The book is a sequel with a different angle to my first book, HOT EXERCISE, a best seller on Amazon. HOT EXERCISE focuses on the training. SWEAT IT OUT will focus on the detox resulting from the infrared training. This blog post will serve a dual purpose of providing the weekly HOTWORX BLOG article, and to provide a basis for an introduction to the new book.

Today, I’m traveling with a group of colleagues from corporate including our top employee for 2024, Mandy Verges. We are off to our annual Employee of the Year trip. As I sit in this plane on the tarmac of the Orlando airport about to take off for Jamaica with the team, I am focused on writing an introduction for Sweat It Out. The purpose of the new book is to serve as a guide to explain the importance of sweating as it relates to infrared fitness and wellness. I have felt for a long time that there needed to be a go to resource for those who want to fully understand the detox benefits that can be obtained from sweating and working out inside of an infrared sauna like that of the patented HOTWORX infrared training sauna. I plan to finish the book sometime in 2025.

On this December day we are actually headed to The Caves in Negril where the original inspiration to design the first of what would eventually become the HOTWORX infrared fitness sauna. Sitting on this plane waiting to take off, I can't wait to get there in hopes of being inspired to continue the process of fitness innovation.

Following that first trip to The Caves back in August of 2014, and many equipment, software, marketing and operational innovations later, the company landed with a very unique and effective product paired with a super relevant new brand name, HOTWORX. Much of the innovation that goes into the HOTWORX brand happens at home or at the corporate offices, but some very imaginative moments seem to occur at this mystical little resort on the southwest coast of the island of Jamaica. We head to this cliff jumping paradise every three years as a way to remind ourselves about where the inspiration for the HOTWORX sauna began, inspired from the notion of doing yoga in a sauna.

I'm remembering the moment now like it was yesterday on that sunny cliff in mid August of 2014. In the midst of a fitness conversation with one of my best friends, Jerome Price. We were talking about the types of workouts that we were currently doing and I was telling him about my foray into Bikram yoga and how it was a grueling 90 minute workout and that I was using an infrared sauna for recovery. Then Jerome said, "Dude, they should do yoga in a sauna." Immediately, a proverbial lightbulb went off in my mind. I responded to Jerome with, "Bro, I'm going back to New Orleans and design an infrared sauna for that purpose."

After a few minutes passed, I then told Jerome that I would call that sauna the Hot Box Detox! Indeed, it was called that originally, and we have had many a good chuckle through the years over that, but of course we had to rename the sauna for it to realize its highest degree of relevance and that was to happen in the summer of 2016. This was just before I decided to take that new name, HOTWORX, and turn it into a 24 Hour Infrared Fitness Studio concept with the first location that would open in Oxford, MS on February 13, 2017. At the time of writing this, there are well over 700 franchise locations open in the United States, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (Dubai), and one in development in Calgary, Canada. That’s stellar growth from zero to over 700 units open along with strong average unit EBITAs to boot! Not bad for 7.5 years since the opening of that first location. It takes a great product first, then a stellar business system, and great franchise owners to make that happen.

So, as the original name would indicate, detox from sweating it out in an infrared sauna is a major advantage that can be experienced when you do yoga, and other workout types, inside of an infrared sauna.

With all of that said, some folks might be wondering why they need to practice detox. It's much easier to buy into the need to workout, but why detox? Well, I say, "why not do both...at the same time!?" Now you can with a program like HOTWORX. The HOTWORX Training Method uses the powerful combination of heat, infrared energy absorption, and the right types of exercise to yield incredible fat burning, muscle toning, and of course, detox results for clients.

Why should I practice a deliberate program for detox?

Practicing a daily detox program can provide several benefits for physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Here's why it can be valuable:

Our bodies are exposed to toxins from food, air, water, personal care products, and the things that we touch. A detox routine can support the liver, kidneys, and digestive system in eliminating these harmful substances, reducing their impact on overall health. By facilitating toxin elimination through sweat, infrared therapy reduces the detoxification workload on other organs, such as the liver and kidneys, allowing them to function more efficiently.

Accumulated toxins can lead to fatigue and sluggishness. Detox routines can help reset unhealthy eating habits by promoting whole, natural foods and reducing cravings for sugar and processed foods, potentially aiding in weight loss and the maintenance of a proper body composition. A consistent detox program that includes hydrating, nutrient-rich foods, and mindfulness isometric infrared practices can revitalize energy levels and improve focus. With a cleaner system, the mind and the body can function more efficiently. A healthier gut and improved elimination processes support the immune system too, helping your body fend off illnesses more effectively.

Daily detox often involves eating clean, whole foods and avoiding processed and inflammatory items. This can support gut health, regulate bowel movements, and reduce bloating. Many detox programs focus on anti-inflammatory foods like leafy greens, berries, and turmeric. Reducing inflammation can lower the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and arthritis. When a clean diet is coupled with a solid infrared fitness practice, accelerated detox and reduced inflammation can happen through fat oxidation and elimination of wastes through the lungs from breathing and through the skin from sweating it out! The new and improved HOTWORX BURN OFF APP feature, Diet Trax, can be of great assistance to those who seek to eat clean and track calories and a balanced intake of macros.

I hear about the amazing skin results every week from HOTWORX members who extol the benefits from infrared induced sweating. Flushing out toxins, clean eating and an infrared detox program can improve skin clarity and radiance by addressing issues like acne or dullness caused by poor diet or environmental stressors. Sweat It Out and get your glow on!

Just get started! The first step is always the most difficult one when it comes to change. This book is meant to encourage people to take that first step by gaining the knowledge of why an infrared workout and detox program is so important. Detoxing often includes practices like mindfulness, yoga, or meditation, which can reduce brain fog, anxiety, and stress while boosting mental clarity. All of these are a part of the HOTWORX Training Method. The mere act of committing to a consistent detox training program encourages mindful eating, working out, staying hydrated, prioritizing sleep, and other beneficial habits that contribute to long-term well-being. So let’s get to it. Happiness is a choice!

A consistent practice of infrared fitness and detox increases self-awareness and body/mind connection. A daily program of detox allows you to tune into your body’s needs, recognize how certain foods, workouts and other healthy habits affect you, and will guide you how to adjust your lifestyle accordingly.

This book is your guide to help you understand and deploy a personal infrared fitness and detox routine that can result in spectacular results for your health and for your body composition. Consistency is always the key, and even small daily detox habits can add up to significant health improvements and self-confidence over time.
