What Does Toothpaste and Working Out Have in Common?

I often compare brushing teeth to working out.

Why?

To answer the why let me ask another question. Would you skip brushing your teeth in the morning? I would hope that all of us would answer with a resounding NO.

We are taught as a kid by our parents to never forget to brush our teeth each morning. We were taught this because our parents knew that germs can cause tooth decay if not taken care of by cleaning with a tooth brush and toothpaste every day. Our parents helped us to form a very healthy daily habit.

Unfortunately, for the most part, we were not taught to lead an active lifestyle though. Just as your teeth will decay if neglected, so will the rest of your body and mind if neglected. Why are we not teaching our kids to lead an active lifestyle with the same urgency that we are teaching our kids to brush their teeth? The oral cavity is only a small part of the body.

Imagine how healthy we could become as a society if our kids were encouraged to stay active daily in the same way they are taught to brush their teeth. And, what if a kid was taught to practice fitness at a young age in order to form a daily habit for their entire body and for their mind? This is at least as important, perhaps even more important than our daily routine for our teeth!

So, again, what does toothpaste and your workout have in common? A good fitness routine is a habit just like brushing teeth. You should always be in competition with yourself to get better. Getting to a better version of you calls for creating winning habits. The great Vince Lombardi taught us that winning is a habit.

Win the battle of you v. you!

You’ve likely mastered the skill of protecting your teeth for quality oral health, but what about the rest of your body? Consider your workout to be the “toothpaste” for the rest of your body. A great workout can cleanse your body from within through detox and can make your stronger so that your body lasts longer. A great workout can also detox your brain and make it more resilient to keep you sharp as you age. But working out is not a “sometime” thing. It has to become a habit. Find a workout routine that is gets you results and make that workout a habit.

Speaking of results, your workouts can be even more effective in less time when you train in an infrared environment like that of HOTWORX, a 24 hour infrared fitness studio franchise.

There are no excuses for neglecting the rest of your body and the health of your brain. Brushing your teeth in the morning should be the reminder that your workout is required as well for the day. Make your workout a daily win for yourself!

I’ll wrap up this blog post with the full Lombardi quote:

Winning is not a sometime thing, it’s an all time thing.
You don’t win once in a while: You don’t do things right once in a while.
You do them right all the time.
Winning is a habit!
                    Vince Lombardi

Remember that quote every time you put toothpaste on your brush and clean your teeth. Apply the winning “toothpaste” principle it to your fitness program. Show up and do the reps because it is a daily winning habit.

Excellent fitness requires the formation of a good habit like brushing your teeth in the morning. Form a winning workout habit!
