When HOTWORX introduced 3D Training to the fitness world there was no system for recruiting talent to serve as virtual instructors. Recruitment by referral and scouting at fitness conferences was how it happened. There had to be a better way to find the right talent for the role. The recruitment process should be different in keeping with the unique culture of the HOTWORX brand itself.
As a solution to that problem the company decided to create an international virtual instructor competition, the first and only of its kind. After that decision, in 2018 the first annual HOTWORX VI Competition was launched. With that very first competition, the company saw an immediate elevation of fitness talent for the virtual instructor team. Every year since the inception it has continued to improve with more and more applicants and competitors with higher levels of skill.
The HOTWORX 3D Training Method was created by athletes for fitness, so why not let the fitness athletes compete to serve as its Virtual Instructors? With that in mind, the rounds of competition were well thought out for the first year and have only been tweaked slightly since then. This unique competition is gearing up again as it launches into the 2023-24 season. Here’s how it works.
It begins with an online search for applicants that takes roughly three months. Once the deadline for application process ends, then the corporate team will evaluate each application carefully. It is important to note that those who submit high quality videos really showcasing their fitness specialties and skills are who make it to the next round which is the top 40.
Once the field has been narrowed to the top 40 after the exhaustive analysis of each application, an online voting round begins. This is open to the public for anyone to vote on their favorite. This year HOTWORX will be adding a feature to raise money for a good cause at $1.00 per vote and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Sacred Mountain Retreat Center, a place where healing and respite is provided for wounded veterans, first responders and Gold Star Families. Sacred Mountain is located in the Black Hills near Deadwood, SD.
The winner with the most online votes automatically advances to the finals to be held live at the HOTWORX annual franchise convention that will be held at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in DFW this July. The public will be allowed to vote for multiple competitors as often as they wish during the online round.
Another 14 competitors are selected by a team of HOTWORX Executives to solidify the Top 15, who will then be flown to the Gaylord during the convention where there will be four days of competition and will include an intense interview round, a fitness instruction combine, an outdoor workout round, a photo shoot round, and an intense final two hour round in front of the entire franchise audience for onstage questions while doing five minute planks and other intense postures. This obviously requires major fitness skills and communication skills under pressure of a huge audience and bright lights onstage.
After the onstage finals completes the competitive rounds, the audience is allowed to vote and the results are then factored into the overall judging. And then, at the end, the top seven are selected and brought back to the stage to begin their year as Virtual Instructors for the new season.
This past season was filmed and edited into a half hour reality show made for TV and was aired across the U.S. on local network stations and is now streaming on the HOTWORX website that can be viewed at this link, VI Competition 2022-23.
