Infrared Workouts for Natural Pain Relief

I always like to tell people that a HOTWORX workout is a “recovery workout”.  When training in an infrared environment you will actually gain relief from workout soreness while you train and you will experience a recovery from the workout while you are working out.

Infrared energy and heat provide relief from pain, naturally, without meds.

Dr. Will Cole, a functional medicine practitioner, recently stated that, “Infrared saunas are one of my go-to tools for relieving pain and I have seen them do wonders for many of my patients suffering from various health problems, chronic pain in particular.”

Infrared energy penetrates 1.5 inches into your body through the skin to work at the cellular level to remove toxic waste and it also helps to improve circulation whereby delivering more oxygenated blood and nutrients to muscles for pain relief and faster recovery.  Millions of people suffer from pain due to poor circulation.  Most office environments are not equipped to help and are actually contributing to this epidemic of poor circulation.  Sitting at a desk all day requires a good workout to get the blood flowing again.

Heat is known for muscle soothing.  Infrared saunas generate radiant heat the same form of heat that comes from the sun.  No doubt most of us have experienced the soothing feeling of the sun when we go to the beach.  Radiant heat has been used for pain relief for millennia.  Around the fifth century B.C. Egyptian physicians created rules for sun and heat therapy.

I was informed recently that infrared saunas can provide relief to women during monthly menstrual periods.

“In general, there is no reason why a woman should not use the sauna during her period. If your periods are too light, using the sauna regularly can improve your condition by increasing the flow of blood to the uterus. Using the sauna can also help to relieve period pains, since warmth has a soothing effect on cramp-like pain…”¹

“Allowing the blood vessels to properly open and the muscles to relax can also help slow down the amount of prostaglandins your body is producing, which is the hormone that causes cramping and inflammation as a natural healing process/defense mechanism when the initial stages of menstruation are underway.”²

In addition, other forms of pain can be relieved naturally through infrared sauna workouts.

One study noted that pain and stiffness from Rheumatoid Arthritis decreased clinically, and improvements were statistically significant through infrared exposure.³

The leg pain caused from Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) can be managed through the use of an infrared sauna.  The Journal of the American College of Cardiology reported findings from a study using infrared saunas which found that IR “therapy improved symptoms, status, and blood flow in patients with PAD”.

Infrared workouts can provide relief from Fibromyalgia pain.  In one study of 44 female fibromyalgia patients, subjects were exposed to 3 months of sauna therapy 3 times each week, and they were also given underwater exercise 2 times each week.  Pain and other symptoms decreased by 33% to 77%, and the improvements were still present by 28% to 68% after another half of a year had gone by.4

When workouts are combined with an infrared sauna it is possible that the power to relieve pain accelerates due to the compounded circulation improvements caused by the fusion of infrared energy, heat and exercise.  We call this a 3 Dimensional Workout, or 3D Training.
