Your “fitness weapon” is a four letter word. That four letter word is G-O-A-L!
Nothing motivates people better than a good vacation goal. Yet, no matter the fitness program, there will always be those who perform at a higher level of effort, intensity and focus. If you ask those people why they work harder, they will most likely tell you that they are getting ready for something. That something is usually either a sports competition/event, a vacation, or a combination of the two. For the highest level of motivation I recommend a combination of the two!
Now, think about when you are most productive with your fitness routine, and consider the following questions from the legendary motivator, Zig Ziglar.
“As an honest, intelligent person, do you, as a general rule, get about twice as much work done on the day before you go on vacation as you normally get done? …If we can figure out why and learn how and repeat it every day without working any longer or any harder, does it make sense that we will be more valuable to ourselves, our company, our family and our community? The answer is “Yes."
Treat every day like it's the day before vacation and you will get more work done!” Zig Ziglar

Let’s think about what Ziglar has to say and apply it to our workouts. If we can workout every time we are in the gym or the studio like it is the day before vacation, then think of how our level of fitness will soar. I believe the key to this workout mentality is to choose a “fitness weapon” for motivation. It could be a 5k run, or an obstacle course. You may prefer to train for a yoga retreat, a hike to the top of a mountain or a hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Your fitness weapon is your goal and your goal is only limited by your imagination! Set it, go for it, and think about it every day until you are there.
I have found that the thought of snow skiing runs on certain mountains provides me with high levels of training motivation. I think about those runs when I do HOTWORX, or when I am weight training or when I run stadiums. Your fitness weapon is personal, but it can be shared with others. Train with your friends to get ready for a fitness retreat, or some other vacation that involves physical activity.
The bottom line is this. Use the vision of your activities on vacation as your fitness weapon for motivation! Every time you workout you should train like it is the day before vacation!
