A Fitness Challenge with a Purpose

As a fitness professional, I am convinced from experience that one of the best ways to stay in shape is to schedule a trip, or a vacation that involves a fitness challenge. For example, maybe someone decides that they want to train to go to California and learn how to surf at Laguna Beach. Or, perhaps you decide to workout for a trip to Cabo to paddle board from the beach to El Arco and back. Those two choices are cool, but the options to choose from are endless. Just imagine your ideal fitness trip, take your training to another level, and go for it.

My favorite fitness challenge is to select a mountain, set a date, rally the team, train like crazy, and fly somewhere exciting and remote to do a climb to the summit.

I can assure you that a spectacular trip involving a fitness challenge will be supremely motivating to you for your fitness routine. All you have to do is commit to it, and take the action. It doesn’t have to be extreme. It could be a 90 day training program that prepares you for a picturesque, long run on Miami Beach, or Cancun. Pick your beach and imagine yourself there, on that run. Match the trip and the challenge to what your anticipated skill set will be once you get there. Customize it for yourself. Do you!

Years ago I saw an unbelievably beautiful picture in a magazine of a place that I swore I would visit one day. I taped the page out of that magazine to my washing machine so that I would have to look at it every week until I could find a way to go there. Eventually I was able to take a group of our corporate executives to this place two years in a row. This place was St. Lucia. There are two awe inspiring mountains there called the Pitons. These two volcanic mountains stand side-by-side with Sugar Beach in between them to form an other worldly place to visit. When I finally got there, I would just stare in awe at the largest of those two mountains from my room and think about climbing it. We climbed that “Gros Piton” from the beach to the peak on that first trip, and on the second trip we climbed it again beating our first time by 30 minutes. And, on those two trips I found a love for climbing mountains as a fitness challenge! I also discovered that the best way to train for hiking and climbing is with a HOTWORX 3D Training program.

Here’s a tip. If you want to add even more motivation for your fitness challenge trip, consider finding a way to raise money for a good cause and make it a part of your challenge!

HOTWORX decided to raise money based on the height of a mountain in feet. This has become the main driving force behind our climbs. Last year we raised $45,682 for Sacred Mountain Retreat Center, a respite for wounded veterans, Gold Star families, and first responders in need. This past year, our goal was $2 per foot in elevation of the tallest mountain in the western hemisphere, Aconcagua, at 22,837 ft. The year before, the HOTWORX climbing team, in its first “Hiking for Heroes” trek, raised $20,174 based on the summiting of Kilimanjaro at 19,341 ft., the tallest mountain in Africa. That first year we raised funds based on $1 per foot. This year, the team will raise money based on a goal of $3 per foot for the highest peak in Mexico, Pico De Orizaba, which is also the tallest volcano in North America at 18,620 ft.

I am happy to announce that this year we are expanding the concept to invite anybody who wants to form a climbing team, train at HOTWORX, pick a mountain and raise money for Sacred Mountain to join us in this rewarding endeavor to do even more for our nation’s finest!

Form a Hiking for Heroes team and join us in some awesome fitness challenge fun and adventure as we raise over 100k together this year for Sacred Mountain!

So, if you are looking for a new fitness challenge, form a hiking team and join us to present your check onstage to Jerrid Geving, the founder and President of Sacred Mountain at the HOTWORX convention in Nashville at the Gaylord next summer. I can’t think of a more exciting way to stay in shape with your HOTWORX routine and support a good cause at the same time!

Word out to all HOTWORX franchise locations…Form a climbing team to represent your studio!!! Then plan a mountain trip somewhere. Showcase your HOTWORX 3D Training program, and climb for the heroes to raise money for a great cause.

This year we have a goal to raise $100,000 for Sacred Mountain! Form a team. Train hard. Let’s do this!!!

More to come soon about the HIKING FOR HEROES expansion for 2024.
