The FX Zone is a New Way to Train Functionally
“Functional fitness exercises train your muscles to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating common movements you might do at home, at work or in sports. While using various muscles in the upper and lower body at the same time, functional fitness exercises also emphasize core stability.” (1)
When we set out to design the floor plan for the first HOTWORX 24 Hour Infrared Studio in Oxford, MS, we spent a great deal of time with the process of getting the 2300 square foot layout perfect in the effort to create the ultimate fitness studio. We felt that 10 HOTWORX saunas with one sauna row for isometrics and one sauna row for HIIT was right, but we had extra space so we soon determined that we should use it for a functional training area to compliment the hot exercise saunas.
Thus, the FX Zone (FX stands for functional exercise) was born.
For most fitness training, functional exercise combined with good infrared workouts is an exceptional way to set up a weekly routine. The practice of the two is a powerful cross-training combination. There are many benefits including: muscle growth and strength gains from both infrared isometrics and resistance exercises in the FX zone…add flexibility from hot yoga and pilates, balance and core training from suspension strap exercises in the FX Zone, and the list goes on and on, only limited by the imagination…
I must admit that I do still lift heavy weights, mostly out of habit from my football and bodybuilding roots, but I do find now that I can go for a couple of weeks with the use of a HOTWORX sauna and a functional training area alone and still feel like I have satisfied my fitness training needs completely! I really do think that soon I may let go of the olympic bar and plates and heavy selectorized equipment entirely.
Bands, suspension straps and gravity go a LONG way, and when necessary, can be the ONLY thing necessary for a good resistance workout. You can throw in battle ropes, stability balls, dumbbells and kettlebells to spice things up, all of which are included in the FX Zone.
