Aromatherapy and Hot Exercise

Aromatherapy has been used as a form of medicine for centuries with records dating back to ancient times.  Aromatherapy is the use of plant essential oils to improve mind and body functions.  The scent of properly mixed and released essential oil blends can have positive effects on a workout, especially a hot exercise session.  You have to try it to understand the uplifting experience.  Essential oil scents can be used to elevate your emotional state before, during and after your workout session.  It has the effect of increasing awareness and improving workout focus.

In my last blog I mentioned working out with one of our members in Oxford, MS in the Hot Row Sauna.  Hot Row is a 15 minute HOTWORX original super HIIT workout that is a must on the bucket list for any fitness enthusiast.

The member that I was working out with had a 2oz bottle of Wyx spa spray.  She took it out, told me about it, and proceeded to spray it in her area and asked if I wanted it in my area.  Of course I said yes.  I hadn’t used the spa spray in a while and it was nice to get reacquainted with its effectiveness.  My favorite is the tea tree and melon blend from Wyx.  Towards the end of the HIIT session, she sprayed both areas again.  She told me that she absolutely loved the Wyx essential oil and that she was hooked on the spray for the workout!

When she sprayed my space I noticed an immediate heightening of the senses, and it really enhanced the sauna environment.  Without a doubt, I noticed an increased level of motivation to keep pushing and rowing and sweating!

Below is a description of my favorite workout “space and body” spray:

Wyx Spa Spray - Tea Tree Melon
Size: 2 fl oz
For: Space & Body.  This spa spray will enhance any yoga/workout session (and any HIIT session) while creating a mind-body connection.
The blend:  Purified water, pure essential oil of tea tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia), pure essential oil of peppermint (Menthe Arvensis), pure essential oil of camphor (Cinnamomum Camphora), an all natural blend of honeydew melon, musk melon, watermelon & cucumber.
Suggested Use:  Shake well, hold in upright position and spray on yoga mat and body before, during and after yoga, or HIIT and sauna. Great to use during any workout session and to freshen any room, workplace or vehicle.

There are countless combinations of blends that can be experimented with to create a good essential oil workout scent.  Tea tree, eucalyptus (make sure you are not allergic to eucalyptus), geranium, lemon, orange, peppermint, rosemary, black pepper and lavender essential oils are good, to name a few.  Find your favorite scent and keep it in your gym bag, or yoga bag to energize your workouts.  Spray it on your skin when you are sweating and be sure to keep it out of your eyes.  Also, you should spray your workout mat/towel and around your space inside of the HOTWORX infrared sauna.

Try adding a couple of drops of a citrus essential oil such as lemon to your workout water for increased hydration efficiency and better water taste.

Add a little aromatherapy for your next hot exercise session.
